Hi all,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Well darn, it looks like I don't get the tax benefits for 2006 - oh well ;)
Amy had her last doctor appointment on last Friday. All is going extremely well! Tyler is 5 lbs 12 oz and Kristina is 6 lbs. By today they are probably over 12 pounds of baby - ouch. The swelling in the legs has continued and is getting pretty bad. She can't wear shoes now. Today the swelling has spread beyond her knees and into her thighs.
The C-section date is set for Jan 25th! However both Amy and I believe it will happen before then. Place your bets!!!
Click here for a video of the twins having the hick-ups.
I hope you all have a good 2007; I know I will.

32 weeks 5days: Bed rest almost OVER!
Hi everyone.
I hope all are doing well and enjoying the holiday season. This past weekend we setup our first Christmas tree; and it is a real one too! Since we can't go anywhere, Christmas will be at the Vincent house. Our 2006 Christmas letter is posted on our website.
Amy is a real trooper. We had a little scare last night. For the third time, she had tremendous heart burn. This time it was enough to make her topple to the ground in pain. We called the 24 hour emergency number and the kind doctor gave us permission to take some more Zantac and get some PepsidAC handy. An hour later, all was OK. WHEW!
Amy's swelling continues to be an issue. I call her "my puff dragon" to account for both the swelling and the CRAZY snoring she has been unleashing while she sleeps, and sometimes while she is awake; if you can believe that. I've been forced into the guest bedroom to get a solid night sleep. I suppose I should get as much sleep as I can now, while I still can.
Our last visit to the doctor was last Friday. He said once we get past week 34, the best rest can stop! Although she won't be able to get around much, it will be nice to leave the house for dinner and a movie. Looks like we won't have to sell our Portland Broadway tickets to see "Spelling Bee". He also mentioned that we should start looking at a date on when the c-section should take place. Sometime between week 38-39... Can anyone guess the significance of that week?
Happy Holidays to you ALL!

30 weeks 3days: 3.4 and 3.5 lbs
Hi all!
We made it passed 30 weeks! Our doctor is so pleased that we have made it passed the danger zone. The twins are on a healthy path to a normal birth - as normal as a twin birth can be. We will be choosing a c-section date soon. Most likely it will be between week 36 and 37. That would make the delivery date between Jan 10 and Jan 17.
Gifts are still coming in the mail. Thank you so much!
This weekend I plan on working on the nursery to get some shelves installed in the closet and get things organized. I'm willing to take suggestions on things that have "saved the day" while raising a child.
Amy is dong well. She is feeling guilty as she sits on her fanny while I work around the house and answer every call for help. It's about time... hehe... just kidding. It is actually really nice to have something other than work and Tivo to worry about.
C ya,
Jason
After 13 inches of rain for November, we had small snow storm.

Week 29: Baby Shower!
Hi everyone! Happy Thanksgiving!
The baby shower was a huge success. Thanks so much for those that helped us out in getting ready for the big day. A speacial thanks to those that drove in from Long View and Walla Walla. It was great to have a full house and overnight guests. The nursery is now full with all sorts of cool stuff.
Amy is hanging in there. After failing the initial glucose test, the major glucose tests were passed with flying colors. No Diabetes! We should have some more body weights for the twins in the next week or so. Once they hit 5.5 lbs, then we know the risk is way down for complications.
We are hoping that the babies wait until at least Jan 10 (36 weeks), so that they mature as much as possible. Of course thier maturity would be relative to my own maturity ;)
BTW... Did I mention at the baby shower that Gin and Scotch is not a good mix. Yikes!
Enjoy the photos.
Cheers,
Jason

Week 26: 2.5 and 2.1 pounds and counting.
Hi all, Week 26 has brought some good news. The bed rest is working wonders and everything is progressing smoother now. As you can tell from the picture, the animals just love having Amy home all the time. They just don't understand why she can't play with them. We are hoping that the babies will wait for week 36. That would be January 10, 2007.
Amy's baby shower is Sunday Nov 19th. We plan on making a registry on Babies-R-Us.

week 24: Bed Rest begins.
Hi all,
Well the doc has had enough and he has put Amy on bed rest. She is allowed to go up and down the stairs once per day, and only allowed to walk to and from the bathroom. Obviously, Amy has stopped working.
The twins are still ok, they are just concerned with how short the cervix is getting. There isn't any dilation yet.
The 40 week due date is Feb 7. We hope that the twins will at least wait until week 34. There is a chance that they may come earlier. I think the Dr mentioned that they can survive after week 28, but we hope they will take thier time.
More scans on Tuesday.

22 weeks: Boy and a Girl - for sure now!
Hurray, new ultrasounds.
Some of you have asked if we have choosen names for them yet.
Twin A is a boy, to be named Tyler Jason Vincent.
Twin B is a girl, to be named Kristina Amy Vincent.
We got really great views this time. What's this... 3 legs? Whoohoo, way to go Tyler. Kristina also decided not to be so shy this time. She gave a real nice profile shot. Perhaps we have a movie star in the family.
Amy is feeling fine. 1 or two things we will be keeping eye on due to there being twins, but no major concerns yet.
More pics to come in four weeks.
Love ya all,
Jason and Amy.

15 weeks - starting to show
Hi all.
We have another ultrasound appointment in 1 week. We just met with our OBGYN that will be delivering the babies. Dr. Joe Chang from the washington medical center in Vancouver, wa. He has 18month old twins himself. We feel very comfortable with him after just one appointment.
The big question: What are the sexes? We'll let you know in 5 months :P. I want to wait for the surprise.
As you can see, Amy has started to show nicely. She hasn't felt them yet, but I understand we shouldn't expect that until around the 20th week.
Check back in one week and hopefully the new ultrasound pictures will be there.
Cheers,
Jason

9 weeks
Hi all,
Things are moving along great. At 9 weeks the babies are 25mm long. As you can see they have little hands and feet. When it was animated we could see the kids squarming and moving thier tiny fingers. Thier heart rates were at a perfect 175bpm.
Amy has been really lucky with no morning sickness at all. She has been really tired and enjoying regular afternoon naps.

It is BABY time.
We're Pregnant!
Ask any question you want.
Here are a few facts:
1) Yup, it's Fraternal Twins! They are the faded blobs in the middle of the black bubbles.
2) In this shot, taken 6/18/2006, they are 6 weeks 5 days along.
3) We are considering on waiting until the big day to find out the sex of the babies.
4) The due date is in the first week of Feburary 2007, if they wait the whole 40 weeks.
5) In this shot they are ~8mm in length. The heart beat can only be heard with the ultrasound.
They both had around 135 beats per minute - which our Dr mentioned was healthy.

Galaxy Simulation
Hi all, welcome to my galaxy simulator.
What is going on here? Well, I guess, I have too much free time, so I decided to spend a weekend witting a Java applet to simulate the effects of gravity.
Let me know what you think.
There is a lot of math going on. Have you practiced your algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus lately?
Check out this math web site. http://mathforum.org/dr.math/
I found many great ideas there.
Some Calculations I use:
Area of a Circle: PI * r^2
Distance Formula: d = sqrt( (x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2)
Pythagorean Theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2
Newton Gravity: Fg = G ((M1*M2)/d^2)
Newton Conservation of Momentum: m1*v1 + m2*v2 = m3*v3
Heron: Area of triangle given 3 non-equal sides (a,b,c) = sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)) where s = (a+b+c) / 2
Some things I'm working on or thinking about:
1) Orbital Decay: Have you noticed that when a planet is orbiting close to a large Planet (Star), the orbit decays until the object spirals into a collision with the Star. My belief is that the major factor is due to rounding errors caused by so many calculations. I'd be interested to hear ways that I can predict the amount of precision that is lost, and perhaps add it back in. All my calculations use doubles.
2) Super Novas: When a object gets large enough it should explode. Simulate the Big Bang? Now it is getting serious. HEHE.
3) My current conservation of momentum calculations assume the impact is dead on. This is rarely the case so I wonder what the math looks like for that; to calculate the new velocity vector.
4) 3D. Yikes! Now the math gets fun.
More details to come.
